The actual door leaf width required to ensure the correct 'Effective Clear Width' as identified in Table 2 and
Diagram 9 of Approved Document M 2004 and Figure 14 and table 2 of BS8300 will depend on the combination of several variables for reference:

• Door thickness
• Frame stop size
• Hinge throw (based on the pivot point of the door)
• Face fixed items on the closing face (E.g. Lever handle, pull handle,weatherboard, etc)

The following calculator enables you to calculate the effective clear width, frame and structural opening for single leaf doorsets and double leaf doorsets, with the door open at 90°, simply by altering the values in each of the boxes, with the associated drop-down tables identifying the standard Leaderflush Shapland options.

Please note where door is able to open beyond 90°, generally as little 93°, the handle can be disregarded when calculating the effective clear width.
