As a leading manufacturer within the building products industry, Leaderflush Shapland has adopted a dynamic approach to our various social responsibilities.
We value the world we live in and constantly strive to implement best working practises aimed at maximising potential environmental benefits and minimising possible adverse effects.
By taking such issues seriously, we believe we can have a positive impact on the well being of society and so we have gone well beyond legal compliance to integrate socially responsible behaviour into our core values.
Leaderflush Shapland within the community
Wherever possible, Leaderflush Shapland provides support to the communities local to our three UK sites and at a national level where appropriate.
- We are committed to developing skills amongst young people through our active apprenticeship scheme
- We open our doors to schools and colleges for work placements and have hosted events as part of National Construction Week
- We continue to preserve the history of timber craftsmanship providing support to local museums
- We organise social events for family and friends of the business
- We have a policy to utilise and develop the local skills base
- We allocate a donation to a charitable organisation every year
- We provide expertise and guidance to legislative committees
Leaderflush Shapland on timber
Despite timber being one of the construction industry’s most renewable products, it is often surrounded by controversy. At Leaderflush Shapland we have taken account of these concerns.
- We are committed to sourcing timber from legal sources and seek evidence of such
- We will not source any timber species prohibited under Appendix 1 of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES)
- We have developed and implemented tracking systems independently, assessed by BM Trada, to meet the requirements of the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) Chain of Custody (COC) scheme (TT-COC-1844)
Leaderflush Shapland on the environment
As well as our strict timber purchasing policy, our responsibilities transfer to wider environmental issues.
- We have developed a comprehensive Environmental Management System in accordance with BS EN ISO 14001
- We comprehensively research the whole life costings of our products
- We use our own timber waste to fuel the boilers which provide energy for heating our premises
- We actively try to minimise noise pollution especially outside normal working hours
- We take every care to dispose of waste in the correct manner and reduce emissions to the atmosphere at every opportunity
At Leaderflush Shapland we see our social responsibility as an integral part of our business and understand that it has a significant role to play in our continued success.
